The Macallan Concept No. 3 is the third and final release in The Macallan's Concept Series, made in collaboration with the American graphic designer David Carson. Carson spent time on the Speyside estate with Whisky Maker Polly Logan, and his layered, collage style appears on the label and box. It is a 700ml bottle of natural colour whisky released in 2020.
First fill sherry butts, ex-bourbon barrels, and refill and virgin American oak casks all contribute to the blend. The strength of 40.8% was chosen for its balance of flavour and aroma, and eight is a favourite number of both Carson and Logan.
The nose offers fresh pear and apple, vanilla and light citrus over gentle sherry. The palate is bright and lightly oily, with cinnamon, oak spice, caramel and orange. The finish is medium, with orange zest, vanilla and a soft herbal note.
