The Macallan M Black MMXVII is the 2017 annual release in the M Black series, a Speyside single malt bottled at 44% ABV (88 proof). It was matured in Spanish oak casks seasoned with dry Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez sherry, from the Vega Real cooperage.
This release comes in a geometric black crystal decanter designed by Fabrica, in a presentation box, and was made in limited quantities.
The nose offers dark chocolate orange, dried fig, raisin, antique leather and cinnamon, with treacle sweetness from the Pedro Ximenez. On the palate are Christmas cake, stem ginger, espresso, dark orange marmalade and toasted almonds. The finish is long and warming, with dried fruit, bitter chocolate and polished leather.
