The Sexton is a single malt Irish whiskey made from 100% Irish malted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is matured for around four years in first, second and third-fill Oloroso sherry casks, and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml black hexagonal bottle with copper detailing.
The name comes from the sexton, the caretaker of a churchyard, and the skeleton in a top hat on the label nods to that figure. Beneath it sits the word Dubh, Irish for black.
The nose is honeyed malt, nuts and dark chocolate, then marzipan, allspice and fruit. The palate is smooth and mellow, with honeyed malt, dried fruit and gentle oils. The finish is soft, with gentle oak and a mild, fading sweetness.
