This is a triple-distilled Irish single malt from Great Northern Distillery, distilled in May 2017 and matured for five years in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. In February 2023 part of it moved into a handmade 50-litre virgin cherrywood cask for twelve months. It was bottled in February 2024, aged six years and nine months, at a natural cask strength of 56.7% ABV.
It is one of five single-cask releases from The Woodpecker & The Leprechaun that explore the effect of different woods on the same base whiskey. Only 87 bottles of 50cl were filled, without colouring or chill-filtration.
The nose has peppermint, green apple peel, manuka honey and vanilla. Mint, green tea, forest honey, coconut and lime peel come through on the palate, and the finish is fruity and fresh.
