The Yamazaki 18 Year Old is a single malt from the Yamazaki Distillery near Kyoto, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii of Suntory. It is bottled at 43% abv in a 700ml bottle.
Made from 100% malted barley and distilled in copper pot stills, it is aged for a minimum of 18 years in American oak, Spanish sherry oak and Japanese Mizunara oak casks.
The nose offers raisin, apricot, café au lait, dried fruit, polished leather and the sandalwood and incense of Mizunara. The palate shows blackberry, strawberry jam, dark chocolate and maple syrup, with hints of tobacco smoke and wood shavings.
