This Is Not A Blend is a single malt Scotch from Compass Box, bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle. Despite the name, it is not a blended whisky.
It is a limited edition made from seven first-fill bourbon barrels distilled in 2015, then finished for eight weeks in ex-Bowmore 2002 casks. The Bowmore finish adds a gentle coastal, smoky lift to a bright, fresh and delicately waxy spirit.
The nose is fresh and subtle, with sea-breeze salinity, green barley, liquorice, vanilla, candied lemon and Williams pear. The palate is silky and oily, with pineapple, banana, beeswax and honey. The finish is long, with liquorice-led peat, eucalyptus and aniseed.
