Thomas H. Handy is a straight rye from Buffalo Trace, part of the distillery's Antique Collection and released each year. It is named after a nineteenth-century New Orleans bartender credited with bringing rye to the Sazerac cocktail.
The 2023 release was distilled in spring 2017 in new white oak barrels, matured for 6 years and 2 months and bottled in autumn 2023 at barrel proof, 62.4% ABV (124.9 proof).
The palate shows toffee, fig cake and candied fruit, followed by mint, cinnamon and clove. The finish is long and warm, with allspice, coconut and nutmeg.
