Togouchi 1st Release Cask Strength is a Japanese single malt in a 70cl bottle, and one of the first two single malts released by the Sakurao Distillery. Chugoku Jozo, near Hiroshima, has distilled since 1918, mainly sake and shochu, and turned to whisky in 1990.
This release is aged for three years in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The maturation takes place in an old railway tunnel, which sets it apart from the Sakurao Single Malt.
The nose offers apple, apricot and banana. The palate is soft and silky, with honey, vanilla and cocoa, and the finish is spicy and caramelised.
