Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Tennessee Whiskey (70cl, 50%)

Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium is a Tennessee whiskey bottled at 100 proof, or 50% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It was the first release from the brand, in 2017, and it is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. Today's blend includes whiskey from Uncle Nearest's own barrels. The brand honours Nathan 'Nearest' Green, regarded as the first known African American master distiller. Originally the whiskey was made with two Tennessee distilleries, using regional grain, charcoal treatment and new American oak barrels. The nose offers hay, dried grass, pumpkin seed, ripe peach, apricot, caramelised corn and maple syrup. Spicy caramel opens the palate, followed by maple, dried fruit and floral notes. The long finish stays sweet, with vanilla appearing as the spice fades.
