Villa Oeiras Carcavelos 15 Year Old (50cl, 18.5%)

Villa Oeiras Carcavelos 15 Year Old is a fortified wine from the Carcavelos DOC in Lisboa, Portugal, in a 500ml bottle. Villa Oeiras is the appellation's only remaining producer, and the wine is a blend of Arinto, Galego Dourado and Ratinho, roughly a third of each. The blend is fortified part-way through fermentation, while still sweet, then aged oxidatively in Portuguese and French oak for an average of 15 years, followed by around six months of rest in bottle. In style it sits between Boal Madeira and tawny port. On the nose and palate there is dried fig, toasted almond and orange peel, with walnut, caramel and rancio character and a salty edge. It is sweet but lively with acidity, and finishes long and nutty.
