Weller 12 Year is a Kentucky straight wheated bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 45% (90 proof) in a 750ml bottle after 12 years in new charred American oak.
It uses wheat rather than rye as the secondary grain, in the distillery's Mash Bill #2. The Weller name goes back to William Larue Weller, a 19th century distiller credited with first using wheat in this way.
The nose offers honey, toffee, vanilla and baked apple, with cinnamon and a hint of dried apricot. The palate is soft and creamy, with caramel, brown sugar and baked pastry, and the finish is long, sweet and warming.
