Weller Special Reserve is a Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, distilled and bottled at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. This is the 1 litre bottle, at 45% (90 proof), matured in new charred American oak.
The mash bill is corn, wheat and malted barley, with no rye. The Weller name honours William Larue Weller, born in Kentucky in 1825, who is credited with using wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain. Its packaging has earned it the nickname green label Weller.
It pours burnt orange. The nose is sweet with a clear note of caramel, the palate smooth and delicate with honey, butterscotch and soft woodiness, and the finish gently sweet with a honeysuckle flair.
