WhistlePig Old World is a 12 year old straight rye whiskey from Vermont, bottled at 86 proof (43%) in a 750ml bottle.
The rye spends 12 years in new American oak, then is divided between three European wine casks: Madeira, Sauternes and Port. Each portion finishes separately before the three are blended back together at 63, 30 and 7 per cent. It was the first rye to use a triple wine cask finish.
The nose is caramel, vanilla and winter fruit, with dried apricot. On the palate rye spice meets apricot, plum, raisin, date and honey, and the finish is long, with dark chocolate, winter fruit, caramel and vanilla.
