Woodford Reserve is a Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 45.2% ABV in a large 1.75 litre bottle.
The mashbill is 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt, a high share of rye for a bourbon. The spirit is triple distilled and goes into the barrel at a low proof, then matures for at least six years in charred barrels.
The nose is thick and creamy, with honey, spice, leather, cocoa, toasty oak and vanilla cream. On the palate come espresso, winter spice, rye and ginger, leading to a long finish of cereals and toasty oaken spice.
