This is A. H. Hirsch Reserve 16 Year Old straight bourbon in its gold foil humidor edition, a limited edition presented in a humidor box in a 75cl bottle.
The bourbon was distilled in spring 1974 in the small copper pot stills of the Pennco Distillery, near Schaefferstown in Pennsylvania, later renamed Michter's. Adolph Hirsch, a former director of Schenley Distillers, acquired all 400 barrels and brought them to market with Julian Van Winkle III.
The nose is rich and sweet, with creamy vanilla, caramel, oak spice and pot still grain character. The palate is soft toffee and vanilla. The finish is dry and oaky, with smoke, baking spices and a touch of black pepper.
