Abasolo Mexican Whisky (70cl, 43%)

Abasolo is a Mexican whisky in a 70cl bottle, bottled at 43%. It is distilled from 100% Cacahuazintle corn, a Mexican variety that local farmers have cultivated and handed down through more than 200 generations. Nixtamalization brings out its notes of roasted corn, honey, vanilla, black tea and leather. The colour is deep amber with honey-gold highlights and a copper glow. The nose opens with roasted corn and honey, then vanilla, a little black tea and a hint of leather. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, with roasted corn sweetness, honey and vanilla, and black tea tannins that deepen towards the end. The finish is long, fading through leather and black tea into a warm, earthy echo.
