Alium 2019 Valdecuevas (14.5%)

A red wine from Valdecuevas in Castilla y León, made from 100% Tempranillo from a single two-hectare vineyard planted 55 years ago. The grapes are hand-picked and selected, then cold-soaked for five days before spontaneous fermentation. After pressing, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in used 500-litre French oak barrels, then matures for 12 months in new 500-litre French oak barrels, followed by a further year in the cellar before release. It is dark ruby with a purple edge. The nose shows concentrated fruit, dark berries, eucalyptus, dark spices and a little vanilla. On the palate it develops with aeration, gaining harmony between fruit sweetness, grip and structure.
