Amahagan Peated Edition (70cl, 47%)

Amahagan Peated Edition is a Japanese blended malt from Nagahama, bottled at 47% in a 70cl bottle. It is the fifth regular release in the distillery's World Malt series, first appearing in July 2021. It marries Nagahama's own malt with imported peated and unpeated malt whiskies, and part of the blend then receives extra maturation in bourbon casks. It was the first release in the series with an openly smoky emphasis, and it is bottled without added colour or chill-filtration. The nose opens with baked apple and ripe peach, then mint and herbs, toasted malt, peat smoke and a hint of iodine. The palate starts with juicy grapefruit before turning smoky and toasted. The finish is sweet with a light bitterness, with candy floss and wasanbon sugar.
