Ardbeg 10 Year Old is a single malt from the Ardbeg distillery on Islay, which was established by the MacDougall family in 1815. Ardbeg is heavily peated, and the Ten is described as smoky yet balanced, with the peat giving way to the natural sweetness of the malt. It was named World Whisky of the Year in 2008.
The nose brings smoky fruit, lemon and lime, dark chocolate, menthol, black pepper and tar. On the palate come tangy citrus, cinnamon toffee, brine, buttermilk, ripe banana and currants. The finish is long and smoky, with tarry espresso, aniseed, toasted almonds and a little pear.
