Ardbeg Ten Years Old is a peated Islay single malt, bottled at 46% rather than reduced to 40%. It is not chill-filtered, which keeps more body and depth in the glass.
The nose combines smoky fruit, peat with lemon and lime, waxy dark chocolate, menthol, black pepper, tarry rope and graphite, with smoked fish, crisp bacon, baked pineapple and pear juice beneath.
On the palate, crackling peat meets sharp citrus, black pepper and cinnamon-spiced caramel, followed by sea salt, buttermilk, ripe banana and redcurrant. The finish is long and smoky, with espresso, aniseed, toasted almonds and fresh pear.
