Ardbeg – 1975 Single Cask 1378 (53.7%)

This is a single cask Ardbeg from Islay, filled on 28 March 1975 into a sherry butt and bottled on 8 November 2006 at 53.7% ABV. The cask gave 453 bottles. In the glass it is a deep walnut colour. The nose is described as salt, seaweed, liquorice root, menthol, sweet caramel, lightly burnt chocolate and rich fruit, with a nutty tart note and light smoke softened by the years in cask. The palate is round and soft at first, then full sherry notes, seaweed, tar, honey, vanilla cream, orange, baked golden fruit and coffee beans dipped in chocolate. The finish is long.
