Ardbeg Seann Chreag is a 21-year-old Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle. The name is Gaelic for 'Old Rock'. It matured for at least 21 years in a mix of European oak casks that previously held oloroso sherry and American oak ex-bourbon casks, and it is bottled at 46.8% ABV. It is non-chill-filtered and has natural colour.
The nose combines peat smoke, sea salt and seaweed with candied lemon, honey, vanilla, ripe tropical fruit, fine leather and a little black pepper. On the palate it is creamy, with citrus, ripe mango, caramel and dark chocolate alongside an iodine-tinged smoke. The finish is very long, with embers, cocoa, roasted coffee, pepper and a maritime note.
