Ardbeg 25 Year Old is a single malt from Ardbeg Distillery on Islay, bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill-filtered. It joined the core range in January 2021 as its oldest permanent expression, released in limited quantities.
The whisky was distilled in the 1990s, when the distillery was making only a small amount of spirit. Ex-bourbon casks are reported for its maturation.
The nose combines smoked cream, peppermint and toffee with fennel, pine resin, distant earthy bonfires and fragrant candle wax. The palate is peppery, with sherbet-lemon sweetness, candied apple, pear and orange, hints of carbolic soap and tar, and creamy toffee. The finish is long and mellow, with cream, fudge and delicate antiseptic notes.
