Ardbeg 25 Year Old is an Islay single malt in a 75cl-sized 750ml bottle, drawn from casks filled during some of the distillery's most difficult years. Ardbeg closed in 1991 and reopened six years later.
The colour is bright amber. The nose combines smoked cream, peppermint and toffee with fennel, pine resin, earthy bonfires and candle wax, plus banana and tropical fruit. The palate is hot and peppery, then sherbet lemon sweetness, carbolic soap, tar, creamy toffee, aniseed and chilli. The finish is long and mellow, with cream, fudge and delicate antiseptic notes.
