Ardbeg 5 Year Old Wee Beastie is a peaty Islay single malt, bottled at 47.4% ABV after five years in casks. It matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, and it is non-chill filtered with no added colouring.
The nose starts sharply, with vetiver, fennel and green apple over vanilla, ripe pear and aniseed, then savoury notes of Turkish coffee, honey-roast ham, leather and black pepper. The palate is powerful, with intense peat smoke, black pepper, bitter chocolate, salty liquorice and roast meat. The finish is long and smoky, with leather, campfire, espresso and spicy oak.
