Ardbeg 8 Year Old For Discussion is a young Islay single malt bottled at 50.8% and non-chill filtered. It was released for members of the Ardbeg Committee. The whisky matured for eight years, mainly in ex-bourbon casks. Alongside Ardbeg's peat character, it shows notes of herbs, woodsmoke and a subtle vegetal edge. The nose has charcoal, tar, creosote and liquorice, then fennel, celery and green pepper; water brings lavender, coriander and salty sea air. The palate is peppery and dark, with ash, toasted spices, toffee and liquorice, then milk chocolate, aniseed and woodsmoke. The finish is long and smoky with a maritime edge, with coal tar soap, lemon peel, beeswax and hazelnut.
