Ardbeg An Oa is a peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky, in a 750ml bottle at 46.6% ABV. It is named after the Mull of Oa, a headland near the distillery, and is non-chill-filtered.
The malted barley is peated to roughly 50 phenol parts per million. Whiskies matured separately in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, virgin charred oak casks and ex-bourbon casks are then married in Ardbeg's Gathering Vat before bottling.
The nose offers sweet peat smoke, smoky lemon rind, ginger and angelica, with burning applewood and toffee beneath. The palate is soft and sweet, with milk chocolate, treacle toffee and orange peel, then black tea, cloves and aniseed. The finish is long and gently sweet, with mint toffee and malty biscuit.
