Ardbeg Anamorphic is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, matured in casks given a "high mocha" treatment. The cask heads are scored deeply, toasted with infra-red heat and the insides charred before the new make spirit goes in.
The name refers to a whisky that shifts between sweet, smoky, herbal and spicy flavours.
The nose is earthy, dusty and slightly biscuity, with restrained sooty, tarry notes and silky vanilla. Water brings out herbal and floral notes. The palate is peppery and warming, with chilli chocolate, mocha, birch tar and smoked artichoke. The finish is sooty and smoky, with charcoal, bitter almonds and molasses.
