Ardbeg – Corryvreckan (75cl, 57.1%)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is a cask strength Islay single malt, bottled at 57.1% in a 750ml bottle. It is named after the Corryvreckan whirlpool, which lies between the islands of Jura and Scarba. The base is heavily peated Ardbeg spirit matured mainly in ex-bourbon barrels. Whisky aged in virgin French Limousin oak is added to it, bringing a peppery spice and tannic depth. The nose is smouldering peat and tarry rope with brine, dark cherry, blackcurrant and vanilla. On the palate come charred wood, plum, black cherry and orange peel, then espresso, liquorice and black pepper. The finish is long and smoky, with black pepper and espresso.
