This is Ardbeg Dark Cove, a limited-edition Islay single malt released on 28 May 2016 for Ardbeg Day, the distillery's open day during the Islay Festival. It is bottled at 46.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The name nods to Islay's illicit past and smugglers working under cover of darkness. It was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and dark sherry casks, and was billed as the darkest Ardbeg yet.
The nose combines chocolate orange, toffee, oaky spice and Ardbeg's smoke and soot. The palate is dry and full, with peppery spice, raisin, milk chocolate, savoury meaty notes, beeswax and bonfire smoke.
