Ardbeg Scorch is a peated Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day 2021. Its story centres on a fire-breathing dragon said to have set Dunnage Warehouse 3 alight.
The whisky was matured in ex-bourbon casks given a heavy 'dragon char' treatment, which deeply caramelises the wood. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is non-chill filtered.
The nose offers nuts, spice, aniseed and patchouli over oily, burnt peat, with heather and sage. The palate is oily, with tar, liquorice, clove and black pepper, then grilled meat and sandalwood. The finish is long, smoky and sooty, with charred wood and ash.
