Ardbeg Scorch is an Islay single malt from Ardbeg Distillery, released as the 2021 Ardbeg Day limited edition for Fèis Ìle. It is bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle, with natural colour and no chill filtration.
The whisky was matured only in Ardbeg's most heavily charred ex-bourbon American oak casks, a char Dr Bill Lumsden calls dragon char. The release draws on the legend of the Islay dragon, and the spirit rested in Dunnage Warehouse #3.
The nose is bonfire smoke, soot and charred oak over lemon zest and sea spray. The palate is full and oily, with peat, dark chocolate, espresso and black pepper. The finish is long, with ash, anise and smouldering embers.
