Ardbeg – Spectacular (46%)

Ardbeg Spectacular is an Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day. It is the first Ardbeg to have been matured partly in port casks, alongside traditional ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, with a Sunset Orange colour. The nose is floral and perfumed, with lavender, vetiver and burning incense, plus almond, leather and a waxy note. Water brings out woodsmoke, damp peat moss and menthol. On the palate, creosote, tar, mint chocolate and sweet pear crumble sit alongside salted caramel fudge, smoked nuts and dark chocolate, with the port casks adding a light fruitiness. The finish is long, with smoke, leather, spice and sweetness.
