Ardbeg Ten is a ten-year-old Islay single malt from the Ardbeg Distillery, known since 1815 for heavily peated whiskies. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, without chill filtration.
The barley is malted over Islay peat, and the whisky matures for a minimum of 10 years on Islay in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Ardbeg also uses a long fermentation to encourage fruity ester notes.
The nose combines smoky fruit and peat with lemon, lime, dark chocolate, menthol and black pepper. The palate balances peat smoke with the sweetness of the malt, alongside toasted vanilla, cinnamon, hazelnut and almond caramel. The finish is long and warm, with smoke, vanilla, spice and toffee.
