Whisky Sponge Edition No. 84 is a 31-year-old single malt from Auchentoshan, distilled in 1991 and bottled at natural cask strength from a single second-fill barrel. Only 179 bottles were filled, each of 70cl.
The cask showed plenty of ripe fruit, honey, dried flowers and soft waxy notes, in a slightly old-school, mature malt style.
The nose is vibrant and fruity, with honey, green fruit jams, olive oil and a little soft waxiness. The palate is full of ripe yellow and green fruits with dry waxes, flowers and pollen, and the finish is long, leaning towards dried flowers, crystallised honey and wax.
