Auchentoshan Three Wood is a Lowland single malt from a distillery founded in 1823 that still distils its whisky three times. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matures in three types of cask in turn: first American bourbon, then Oloroso sherry, and finally Pedro Ximénez sherry. Vanilla from the bourbon, dried fruit and spice from the Oloroso and rich sweetness from the Pedro Ximénez sit together in a soft Lowland spirit.
The nose is blackcurrant and ripe plum with buttery toffee, hazelnut and cinnamon. The palate is smooth and full, with dried fruit sweetness, then spice and a slightly bitter wood note. The finish is long and warm.
