Balcones Brimstone is a smoked corn whisky from Waco, Texas, in a 75cl bottle at 106 proof. It is made from roasted blue corn grown in New Mexico and distilled in double-batch copper pot stills after an extended fermentation.
The smoke comes from Texas scrub oak rather than peat, used in a proprietary process. The corn base is sweet, rich and faintly masa-like, with the scrub oak smoke laid over it.
Brimstone won Best Category Craft Spirit at the American Distilling Institute.
