This is a single malt from Ballechin, distilled in 2003 and bottled at 18 years old by Whisky Sponge as Edition No.47. It is a Highland whisky, bottled at 48.5% in a 70cl bottle.
It was matured in a single refill sherry butt, which yielded 353 bottles. The nose is led by concentrated peat smoke, earthy and medicinal, with mint, wet soil, balsamic strawberries and polished leather. Water brings out more sweetness.
On the palate come barbecue glaze, fireplace ash and antiseptic notes over a base of plums, raisins, burnt toffee, cinnamon and gentle pepper. The finish is long, ashy and medicinal, with lingering brown sugar.
