Ballindalloch The Castle is a limited-edition Speyside single malt, made in collaboration with the crime author John Sutherland. It celebrates his thriller The Castle, which is set on a fictional Highland estate inspired by the real Ballindalloch Castle. The whisky was distilled in 2015 and is bottled at 50% ABV.
It is peated, and matured in a mix of first-fill and second-fill ex-bourbon casks. The second-fill casks previously held peated whisky.
The nose offers orchard fruit, fresh pear, vanilla custard and gentle campfire smoke. The palate is creamy and balanced, with baked apple, sweet malt, crème brûlée and a subtle, earthy smokiness. The finish is medium to long and warming, with honeycomb, vanilla, light oak spice and a last hint of smoke.
