This 2016 Balmenach is a 10 year old Speyside single malt, bottled by Signatory Vintage as 100 Proof Edition #79. It is in a 70cl bottle at 57.1%, without filtration or added caramel colouring. Balmenach was founded in 1824.
The whisky spent ten years in ex-bourbon casks, then a finishing period in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts.
The nose is typically described as raisins, figs and prunes with vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate and orange peel. On the palate come honey, dried apricot and cherry with cinnamon and ginger, and the finish is long, with dark berries, bitter chocolate and light tannin.
