A Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Bardstown Bourbon Co., bottled at 96 proof (48% ABV) in a 750ml bottle after at least five years and eight months of ageing. It belongs to the Origin Series, the distillery's first releases made from its own distillate. The mash is 95% rye and 5% malted barley.
It then has a second maturation in custom zebra barrels made by the West Virginia Great Barrel Company, with staves of cherrywood and American oak toasted using infrared light rather than open flame.
The nose has juniper, fern, black tea, clove and marzipan. The palate brings dark rye bread, dried fig, Bing cherry, nutmeg and black pepper. The finish is long and drying, with oak and anise.
