This is a 40 year old Speyside single malt from Benriach, in a 70cl bottle at 43.5% abv.
It combines two kinds of cask. Bourbon casks of American oak bring honeyed pomelo and ripe stone fruits, while port casks from Portugal's Douro Valley add dark chocolate, plum and walnut.
The nose offers sweet orange, plum and honeyed pomelo with dark chocolate, walnut and a hint of spice. On the palate come orchard fruits, morello cherry and stewed red apple in a velvety texture. The finish is long, with fruit, spice and oak, a touch of sweetness and some salinity.
