BenRiach – Peated Albariza 22 Year Old Second Edition (70cl)

This is a 22 year old single malt from BenRiach, in a 70cl bottle and released as the Second Edition of its Peated Albariza. It is made from peated malted barley, matured in American oak casks and finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. The name comes from albariza, the white, chalky soil of Andalucia in southern Spain, considered the best soil for growing the grapes used to make sherry. The nose offers candied peel, soft peach and ripe banana with Demerara sugar, alongside gentle peat smoke and sweet oak spices. On the palate, peat smoke and barley meet citrus zest, white pepper and fresh ginger, followed by caramelised orchard fruits and dried apricots. It ends in a rich, grassy wood smoke finish.
