BenRiach Smoke Season is a Speyside single malt that draws on the distillery's smoky side. Master blender Dr Rachel Barrie created the recipe for this small-batch special edition, bottled at 52.8% in a 70cl bottle with a tube.
The whisky matures in bourbon casks and in new American oak, a pairing intended to bring out the sweet, toasted notes of the smoky spirit. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and its golden tone comes entirely from the casks.
The nose offers sweet caramel smoke, spicy oak and citrus peel. On the palate, smoky dark vanilla meets seared apple and cinnamon, with roasted orange carrying into a finish where sweetness and smoke stay linked.
