The Smoky Twelve is a 12 year old single malt from Benriach, a Speyside distillery. It is made from 100% peated barley, a departure from the distillery's core range, and bottled at 46%.
It was matured in first-fill bourbon and virgin American oak casks, which set smoke beside a restrained sweetness.
The nose brings campfire smoke, orchard fruit and vanilla. On the palate come smoked apple wood, honeyed barley and a hint of sea salt. The finish is long, with smoke, oak and a touch of sweetness.
