A 43-year-old Benrinnes from Speyside, distilled on 27 March 1978 and matured in a single refill American hogshead, number 1636. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it on 30 December 2021 for its Private Collection, at a natural cask strength of 54.5% without chill-filtration or added colour. The outturn was 158 bottles.
The nose opens with lively lemon and a salty edge, followed by honeysuckle, pineapple, dried apricot and brown sugar. On the palate, peppercorn spice balances citrus and watermelon, with marzipan, light charred oak and a hint of dried tobacco. Roasted nuts mark the medium to long finish.
