This is a 12 year old Benrinnes from 2009, bottled by The Red Cask Co. at 53.7%. It was matured in a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, and only 288 bottles were filled.
The cask gives the whisky a very dark colour and a rich, sweet sherry character.
The nose brings raisins, dark chocolate, cherry jam, espresso and warm spices. The palate is full and rich, with toffee, plums, roasted nuts and caramel, plus a sweet, spicy punch. The finish is long and warming, with cocoa, oak and a pleasant sherry dryness.
