Benrinnes – 2010 The Old Friends (70cl, 51.4%)

This is a 2010 Benrinnes single malt, bottled under the name The Old Friends at 51.4% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Benrinnes sits in the centre of Speyside, on the northern slope of the mountain of the same name, at a height of 250 metres. It was founded in 1835 as Lyne of Ruthrie. Its wash still has an unusual arrangement: the low wines are divided, run first through spirit still No. 2 and then No. 1, and the resulting spirit is distilled once more, a particular form of triple distillation. The water comes from the Scurran and Rowentree Burns.
