Big Peat 12 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

Big Peat 12 Year Old is an Islay blended malt Scotch whisky from the independent bottler Douglas Laing, in a 70cl bottle at 46%. It is made only from Islay single malts and bottled without added colouring or chill filtration. It is the age-stated addition to the Big Peat range, which Douglas Laing launched in 2009. The extra maturation gives a more rounded version of the familiar maritime, smoky style. The nose is clean, fresh, salty and oceanic, turning to sweet malt dried over peat. On the palate come charred oak, chimney smoke, rock pools and summer tar. The finish is long, with brown sugar, bonfire ashes and a distinctly phenolic note.
