This is the Winter Edition 2026 of Big Peat, a blended malt from Douglas Laing that joins Islay peat smoke with French red wine casks. The whisky matured for ten years, and spent the last 16 months of that time in French red wine casks. It is bottled at 48% ABV, without colouring and without chill-filtration.
The nose combines maritime peat smoke and sweet malt with dark berries, warming spice and oak. On the palate vanilla, butterscotch and salted caramel lead to black cherry, ripe plum and dark chocolate, with a gentle nuttiness throughout. The finish is long, spicy and drily peaty.
